Learning Remotely

Remote Learning Accommodation

As we prepare for the fall semester, we recognize that there may be some students who are unable to safely return to campus due to health or disability-related conditions. If you believe you are a student with a special health risk due to COVID-19 and wish to continue your Villanova education remotely this coming semester, please email nicole.subik@villanova.edu as soon as possible. Students seeking this accommodation will be asked to provide documentation supporting their request. Requests based on other reasons should be submitted to the student’s college.

Resources for Online Classes

LSS has created resources for students and faculty about common issues with online courses and other academic concerns.

Important Announcements

Academic Accommodations

Students who have a documented disability and have registered with our office will continue to receive their academic accommodations while taking online classes. Students should email learning.support.services@villanova.edu if they have any questions about how these accommodations will be implemented and how to communicate with professors about possible adjustments.

Students who have a documented disability and are in need of academic accommodations, but have not previously registered with our office should complete the Online Intake in Clockwork for Students and email learning.support.services@villanova.edu to schedule an intake conversation. These conversations will take place via Zoom or over the phone.

Professors should continue to refer to the accommodation letters sent through ClockWork to determine what accommodations a student has been approved for. We are available to work with professors to determine the best way to support students during this period.

Testing Accommodations and Test Proctoring

LSS has suspend protocting services for the Summer 2020 Semester.

Students who have online quizzes or exams will need to email their professor(s) to ask them to extend the time. We recommend reminding professors at least 3 business days before each quiz or exam since some faculty are new to online testing and may need time to make the adjustments. We have created a template with suggestions about what to write when reminding professors about extended time as well as some information about what to do if students have a disability-related timing conflict, i.e. back-to-back tests. Students should email learning.support.services@villanova.edu if they need assistance communicating with professors.

Professors who need to provide students with extra time for an online quiz or exam should refer to the UNIT guidelines on Blackboard Exams: Setting Testing Accommodations to learn how to extend the time for a particular student's exam on Blackboard. Professors should contact support@villanova.edu if they have any questions about how to adjust the time for Blackboard tests. Professors should email learning.support.services@villanova.edu if they have any questions about how to provide other test related accommodations.

Academic Coaching

LSS will continue to have academic coaching for any Villanova student who needs help with time management, organiziation skills, study skills or test taking skills. We can also talk through issues around how students should structure their day while taking online classes and help them stay on track. These appoinments will take place via Zoom or over the phone. Please email learning.support.services@villanova.edu to schedule an appointment.
